Lasting Powers of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to appoint someone of your choice to handle your personal and financial decisions in the event you are unable to do so yourself.

We recommend all of our clients consider creating Lasting Powers of Attorney. These are documents that enable you to appoint someone to take control of your affairs for you should you be unable to make decisions for yourself.

The Lasting Power of Attorney forms are technical documents that need to be completed correctly to avoid the risk of rejection on registration with the Court.

There are a number of factors to consider and we would welcome the opportunity to talk these through with you and prepare documents which are appropriate to your circumstances.

For further information on types of Lasting Power of Attorney and what you may need to consider click here for our brochure.

We charge on a fixed fee scale set out below:

        1 Document 2 Documents
    Single Unregistered £350 + VAT = £420 £450 + VAT = £540
      Registered £500 + VAT = £600
    + Court fee £82
    £600 + VAT = £720
    + Court fee >£164
    Couple Unregistered £500 + VAT = £600 £700 + VAT = £840
      Registered £750 + VAT = £900
    + Court fee £164
    = £1,064
    £950 + VAT = £1,140
    + Court fee £328
    = £1,468

On registration there is a fee payable of £82.00 per document. This can be avoided if you are in receipt of Income Support or State Pension Credit, or the fee can be reduced if you are on a low income (under £12,000.00 per year) but your income must be proved to the Office of the Public Guardian.

If you care about what happens to your property after you die, you should make a Will. Without one, the state directs who inherits, so your friends, favourite charities and relatives may get nothing.

A properly made Will will protect your family and friends and ensure your wishes are followed. We have an approachable, experienced team of solicitors to guide you through the process of making a Will and who will ensure all legal requirements are complied with. We can also advise whether incorporating a trust in your Will would be of greater benefit for your family.

We can advise on how inheritance tax may affect what you own.

Our charges start at £140 plus VAT for a straightforward single Will.

We also offer free storage in our strongroom once your Will is complete and offered to register your will at no extra charge on the National will database, certainty.

We can visit you at your home if preferred.

They are often set up in Wills although they can be set up during lifetime to assist with inheritance tax planning.

We can advise the best trust for you, contact one of our team if you are thinking of utilising any sort of trust.

We like to be upfront about our fees as we appreciate this is often a concern for those looking for legal advice. We are happy to agree a fixed fee at our first meeting to avoid the worry or uncertainty of the traditional open-ended hourly rate charging structure used by most firms of solicitors.
